Feed nutritious laddus to children during Diwali, tasty and rich in calcium and anti-oxidants.

Om Prakash Niranjan, Koderma: Now it has become easier for parents to feed Madua (Ragi) to children in Koderma. Madua, which is rich in nutrients like protein, vitamins, iron, zinc, calcium and antioxidants, is considered less attractive to many people due to its simple taste. Especially feeding madua roti or halwa to children often becomes a challenge. But now the delicious cookies and laddus of Madua, which are being prepared in the food processing unit in Koderma with the help of the district administration, have become the best solution to this problem.

Madua laddus and cookies: a great combination of health and taste
Recently a food processing unit has been established in Koderma, where products made from Madua are being produced. This unit has been specifically established with the aim of providing self-employment to 500 women, where they prepare products like cookies, laddus, bread and toast from Madua. In this unit, to make the products healthy, jaggery is used instead of sugar, and pure ghee and dry fruits are used instead of vegetable oil.

Amber Bhardwaj, technical supporting staff of the food processing unit, says that all the products made here are prepared as per the food safety standards so that the nutritional value remains intact.

Madua products for babies: laddus, cookies and toast
The food processing unit has introduced Madua laddus and cookies with pure ghee and dry fruits in a unique form, so that there is no deficiency in the nutrition of children. The price of a packet of 6 pieces laddus is Rs 75 and a packet of 300 grams of cookies is available for only Rs 50. This initiative not only takes care of the nutrition of children but has also become a powerful medium to economically empower rural women.

Increasing sales and self-employment from outlets
These products are being sold in both urban and rural areas through outlets established at the block level. Through these outlets, rural women are earning Rs 3000 to Rs 5000 from home. These products have also been made available in village ration shops and sweet shops, so that they can reach more people.

Complete nutrition for children with Madua laddus and cookies
Roopshree Mehta, who had come to the market to buy Madua laddus and cookies, said that Madua is very beneficial for the nutrition of children, but she did not like Madua roti or halwa. Now, when cookies and laddus made from Madua are available to them, they are buying them regularly and feeding them to their children. Since it is made from pure ghee and dry fruits, children are liking it very much and they are eating it without any hesitation.
